The GR®21

voted France's favourite long-distance hiking trail in 2020

Welcome to Fécamp!

If the GR®21, voted France’s favourite walking route in 2020, promises you beautiful panoramas and a fair amount of ascent and descent, venture into the hinterland to discover the Cauchois heritage: châteaux, manor houses, mills, dovecots and clos-masures also make up the landscape.

Did you know?

GR®21 does not mean coastal path…
With the retreat of the coastline, the coastal path is becoming particularly dangerous on certain stretches. This phenomenon of erosion is inevitable and permanent.
For your safety, the GR®21 sometimes deviates from the coastal path to follow a diversion.

Diversion of the GR®21

Valleuse d'Étigues

Following a major cliff fall,
a section of the GR®21 is closed for an undetermined period between the Étigues valley and the Curé valley.

It is strictly forbidden to use the coastal path at this point.
Although the path may seem passable, there is a real risk.

Diversions route

The GR®21 is now diverted :

  • through the bottom of Étigues
  • then along the road towards Bénouville
  • before joining the Curé valley.

Official signs will be put up shortly.

Hiking, yes. Not to put yourself in danger.

We know how much this stretch of road is appreciated, but the priority now is your safety.
Please respect the diversion and pass on the information to those around you.

Hiking

Along the GR®21

Our advice

hiking
  • Don’t put your life in danger by walking under or too close to the edge of the cliffs, as rockfalls are frequent. Never leave the marked path,
  • If the path is impassable (landslide, mudslide, etc.) follow the diversions proposed by the GR®21,
  • Avoid using the coastal path after heavy rain or periods of frost,
  • Do not pick up pebbles; they are essential for protecting our coastline,
  • Wear suitable equipment (see our FAQ).

If you notice any signage defects, don’t hesitate to report them using the SURICATE system.

FAQs

du petit randonneur

  • How do I pack for a hike?
    • Take hiking boots or, failing that, good trainers (watch your ankles on stony paths!) with appropriate socks (or else beware of blisters!);
    • Dress appropriately for the weather and the season:
      Hat or cap, sunglasses and sun cream when the sun is out; jacket, hat and gloves in autumn/winter: the wind blows on the cliffs!
      Whatever the season, bring a cape or other rain gear.
    • Take plenty of water, and always pack a snack (fresh fruit, dried fruit, bread, etc.).
    • Make sure you’re equipped for the hike you’re planning: torch, camera, binoculars, walking sticks and, of course, the essential rucksack!
  • Who should I contact to report the deterioration of a path?

    Use the Suricate website or app to report any problems you encounter when out hiking.

    A signposting error, a defective sign, a pollution problem, a need for safety measures, a conflict with a landowner or other hikers… Fill in the form, locate the problem, take a photo and send it.

    Your report will be transmitted via the Suricate network and processed by the local correspondent.

  • Where to picnic?
    • Sur les plages des Petites Dalles et Grandes Dalles, Saint-Pierre-en-Port, Fécamp et Yport : trouvez-vous un galet plat et profitez de la vue !
      Mais attention aux goélands qui rôdent !
      (Nous vous rappelons que notre nourriture est indigeste pour ces oiseaux)
    • Sur les tables de pique-nique mises à votre disposition :
      • Dans les valleuses de Senneville-sur-Fécamp et Vaucottes ;
      • Au Cap Fagnet, Fécamp ;
      • A Yport, au-dessus du Casino,
      • Le long de la Véloroute du Lin, jusqu’à Valmont et au-delà ;
      • A Valmont, près du vivier.

    Nous vous remercions de maintenir propres nos plages et aires de pique-nique en emportant vos déchets, et vous sommes reconnaissants d’essayer de les réduire.

  • What to do with your waste

    The best waste is the waste we don’t produce.
    We invite you to choose the products you use with care.

    Pick up your rubbish and take it home with you. You will find public rubbish bins as you pass through our villages. If these are already full, we invite you to save your rubbish until the next one!

    • A cigarette butt: pollution > 1 to 5 years.
